| La
Grande Font is situated in a tranquil valley 15kilometres south of Bergerac.
On a quiet road 2 kilometres from the RN21 the location is peaceful with
extensive gardens and beautiful views of the surrounding fields and hills.
The Farmhouse and Cottage are both part of the original hamlet of La Grande Font, and have been renovated to provide two separate holiday homes each with their own gardens, terraces with dining and barbeque area and car parking. Both gardens have mature trees providing welcome shade in the heat of the summer. The tiled salt water swimming pool is shared by both properties and has been enclosed to meet the new safety regulations. The pool is 14 metres x 7 metres with an even depth of 1 metre 30. At night the pool can be floodlit. The extended garden has a large grass area for leisurely games of Boule or gentle golf practice.
Within easy reach of La Grande Font are many of the historic Bastide towns, Issigeac, Eymet, Castillones and Beaumont are all within 30 minutes drive and each has a weekly market. There are beautiful Chateaux to visit; Monbazillac of the famous sweet white wine, is close by as is the abandoned fairy tale Chateau Bridoire. Magnificent Biron and Beynac and of course Chateau Milandes, once owned by the legendary Josephine Baker, are all within easy reach. For the energetic, there are two excellent local golf courses, canoeing, tennis, cycling and horse riding, all available locally. The immediate area offers many charming walks on quiet roads and footpaths. For the less energetic, wine tasting around the local vineyards can prove very tiring, necessitating long siestas to recover. The historic riverside town of Bergerac, has much to offer the visitor, several museums, markets on Saturdays and Wednesdays, good restaurants serving traditional Perigourdine cuisine, pavement cafes and interesting shops.
The countryside around La Grande Font is particularly beautiful in Spring with a profusion of wild flowers, violets, fritillaries, cowslips and many rare orchids. Spring also brings the return of the feathered visitors - Hoopoos with their spectacular crests, golden oriels with their wolf whistle call and of course the nightingales with their amazing song.
